Hey folks... what a ride it has been!
From our Covid beginnings 'til today. We've played in venues with half a dozen people, up to our biggest show ever with a crowd that was estimated between 18 and 24,000... and plenty in between. For now though, the brakes are on. We've come to a stop... I'm planning a move interstate, so for the moment, Sweet Ophelia is on the backburner. I will be resurrecting the band in SE Queensland, hopefully in the not too distant future, with a new lineup and, hopefully, the same quality of talent that I've been fortunate enough to work with for the past 3 - 4 years. Thank you to everyone that has come to a Sweet O gig and supported the band. Thank you to everyone that has made this the wonderful ride that it has been... Paul, Marty, Meghann, Courtney, Heath, Trev, DS and Lin. See you back in the venues... soon! Rob

Well... just once I'd like to be the bearer of good news, but it appears that isn't the world we live in anymore. So, here's the bad news... our debut public performance at the George IV has gone the way of our last debut public performance at Ingleburn Bowlo... postponed. Another Covid casualty. We just can't seem to catch a friggin' break. This is frustrating. Hopefully, we will be back at the George IV in March or April depending on what goes on with this dreaded virus.
Stay safe beautiful people. Sweet Ophelia is coming for ya! Hello world... tonight was meant to be a joyous occasion. Tonight, Saturday, August 14, 2021, was meant to be our first gig together. We've been looking forward to this since our first rehearsal. It's been thought about, dreamed about, talked about, and planned, for months. For some of us, it was going to be a return to gigging after an 18 month break due to the global pandemic. For one of our fold, it was to be a first... a maiden voyage. First gig fronting a band at a real live gig, at a real live venue...
We have been rehearsing every weekend, almost religiously, for months. We've been learning new songs, getting our show just right... until the end of June. A few new Covid cases in Sydney threw a major spanner in the works. We couldn't get together and rehearse. No big deal, we thought. This will all blow over in a week or two, and we'll be back into it... So here I sit... Saturday, August 14, 2021, the night of our first gig... with no gig. I haven't seen the rest of the band since the end of June. I miss them... I miss the laughing. I miss the jokes, both good and bad. I miss hanging crap on them. I miss them hanging crap on me. I miss the camaraderie. I miss the music. How long will it be until we're all in the same room again? Who knows? I hope it's soon... but something tells me it won't be. As case numbers keep going up by the day, I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm not happy Jan! |
